u  Basic Violet 3 is widely used as a purple dye for textiles such as cotton and silk

u  Crystal Violet is used to dye paper

u  The violet 3 is also used as component of navy blue and black inks for printing, ball-point pens, and ink-jet printers

u  As a pH indicator (yellow to violet with the transition at a pH = 1.6) with Basic Violet 3
